Gaurav Patankar

PhD

“As a client fiduciary, I apply my experience and knowledge of governance in tandem with cross-asset and global experience as an investor and practitioner to help optimize client outcomes. I am particularly focused on empowering investment committees that support great causes to become better equipped to manage their fiduciary roles as they work with staff CIOs, OCIOs and consultants.”

Gaurav has spent 25 years as an investor and advocating for investors in the Endowment and Foundation, Family Office, and Defined Benefit spaces, having worked as the CIO of a public pension plan and multiple single-family offices.

Gaurav’s knowledge and experience span venture, private and direct investing, asset allocation, risk mitigation, portfolio construction, manager research, macroeconomic and geopolitical research and liability driven investing. Prior to being an asset owner Gaurav worked as a senior investment professional and portfolio manager, with some of the largest traditional and alternative managers in the world, including BNY Mellon, Millennium Management and Bloomberg, LP.

“I have a long-held passion for a “fiduciary-first” approach to institutional investing. Investment committees need to get both investment competence and incentive alignment right. The industry has thrown a lot of jargon, acronyms, and complicated products at asset owners, when what they need is empowerment and competent advocacy. Highland’s “client first” ethos with a “no products and only advice” approach resonates with my fundamental belief system as a citizen and a steward.”
