Mark Baker
“I enjoy the depth of capital markets. I am constantly learning new things and having interesting conversations with managers, co-workers, and our clients.”
Mark’s not a just whiz—graduating summa cum laude from Cleveland State, he’s a math whiz. He won an outstanding mathematics student award in college. We’re just happy he’s on the Highland team, modelling future events to quantify risk, and conducting due diligence to better understand and track investment manager strategies.
“Probability is not a mere computation of odds on the dice or more complicated variants; it is the acceptance of the lack of certainty in our knowledge and the development of methods for dealing with our ignorance.” —Nassim Nicholas Taleb
When Mark’s not spending time with his family—outside as much as Northeastern Ohio weather permits, he’s reading classics like David Copperfield and Slaughterhouse-Five. He also enjoys “lighter stuff” by Nassim Taleb, the essayist, scholar, former trader and risk analyst who has described risk modelling this way: “Things always become obvious after the fact.” Mark has often said the same.
